Built by a Family, for Families
RestMap was created by a scientist dad and his family after years of adventures across multiple continents. We know the stress of not knowing where your next stop is.
Why We Built RestMap
After many family adventures across North America, Europe, and Oceania with our three kids, we learned something: finding a reliable restroom on the road shouldn't be a gamble.
Whether it's a toddler who can't wait, a teenager who's particular, or anyone managing a condition like IBS or Crohn's, the stress of not knowing what you're walking into is real. Google Maps tells you where bathrooms are. It doesn't tell you if they're any good.
"We built RestMap because we needed it ourselves. Every feature has been tested on real road trips with real kids."
What Makes RestMap Different
RestMap combines intelligence with privacy in a way no other app does:
Our AI fuses all of this data to give you letter grades (A-F) for restroom quality, like a local friend who knows every stop on your route. But unlike other apps, all the AI runs on your device. Your location never leaves your phone. No account required. No tracking. No ads.
What We Believe
- Everyone deserves to travel with confidence. Whether you're a parent with young kids, someone managing a chronic condition, or an LGBTQ+ traveler looking for safe spaces, you shouldn't have to worry about bathroom access.
- Privacy is not optional. Your location data is sensitive. That's why everything runs on-device. We literally can't see where you go.
- Community makes us better. Every rating comes from real travelers visiting real places. The more people contribute, the more accurate RestMap becomes for everyone.
- Transparency over perfection. When we don't have enough data, we say so. We'd rather show "Needs More Data" than guess wrong.
About the Team
RestMap was built by a scientist dad and his family. With three kids (ages 11, 9, and 5) and a homeschooling household, travel is how we learn. Together, we've explored North America, Europe, and the Pacific - always with a car seat, a stroller, and a mental map of every decent restroom along the way.
Our 11-year-old serves as RestMap's Chief Innovation and Testing Officer. Every feature gets tested on real road trips before release. If it doesn't pass the kid test, it doesn't ship.
